This service is exclusively for construction work performed in Alberta. Do not use it for projects located in any other province or territory. Eligibility is based on the physical location of the work, not the mailing address of the owner, contractor or subcontractor. A certificate’s public availability on this website does not make this service suitable for projects outside Alberta.

Responsibility for the certificate

The person or organization submitting a certificate for publication (the “Posting Party”) is responsible for selecting the appropriate certificate and verifying that its information is complete and accurate. This includes the work-site location, parties’ names, description of the work, dates, financial information and signature. The Posting Party must have authority to submit the certificate and ensure that it has been signed by an authorized person. Responsibility for the certificate’s form and content remains with the Posting Party after publication.

Publication does not establish compliance

Publication on BuildWorks Canada does not, by itself, establish compliance with Alberta’s Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act or the applicable contract or agreement.

Before relying on electronic publication, the Posting Party must confirm that the applicable legislation and contract or agreement permit the method being used. The Posting Party remains responsible for completing any required delivery and notification steps and ensuring that the relevant project participants have a reasonable opportunity to see the signed certificate.

Payment of the publication fee, acceptance of a submission or appearance of a certificate on this website does not constitute confirmation by BuildWorks Canada that these requirements have been met.

No verification or legal advice

BuildWorks Canada provides the publication service. It does not inspect the work, determine whether substantial performance has been achieved or certify the accuracy or legal effect of a submitted certificate.

Information on this website is general information, not legal advice. Do not rely on publication alone to determine lien deadlines, payment entitlements or when holdback may be released. Obtain advice appropriate to your project if you are unsure of your obligations.

Public access to published certificates

Published certificates are publicly accessible and may be viewed or downloaded by anyone. This includes signatures and any other information contained in the published document.

Before submitting a certificate, the Posting Party must ensure that it has authority to publish the document and has obtained any permissions required for the information it contains. Do not include personal or confidential information that is unnecessary for the certificate.

Errors and corrections

The Posting Party is responsible for reviewing the published certificate and promptly addressing any error or omission. Contact BuildWorks Canada if assistance is required. Correcting a certificate on this website does not, by itself, resolve any legal or contractual consequences of the original publication. The Posting Party remains responsible for determining whether additional delivery, notification or other steps are required.

Liability and indemnity

BuildWorks Canada will bear no liability whatsoever for any error or omission, including failure to publish any certificate or notice. In the event that a third party brings a claim related to the posting or its content, the Posting Party agrees to wholly indemnify BuildWorks Canada.
